New Delhi: Afghanistan dream run to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup received praise from multiple former cricketers. And skipper Rashid Khan has responded to Sachin Tendulkar’s message, expressing his gratitude for his kind words.
Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh to qualify for their maiden semi-final appearance at the T20 World Cup, at the cost of Australia, who were also eaten along the way.
They now will take on South Africa in the first semi-final while India face England in the second last four clash.
After their win over Bangladesh, Tendulkar wrote on his social media channel: “Afghanistan, your road to the semi-finals has been incredible, overcoming the likes of New Zealand and Australia. Today’s win is a testament to your hard work & determination. So proud of your progress. Keep it up.”
Khan’s side has improved a lot and produced impressive performances against the mighty Aussies and Bangladesh, whom they beat by eight runs via DLS method in a rain-affected Super Eights match.
Afghanistan could only post 115/5 in 20 overs and it seemed it wouldn’t be enough to stop Bangladesh. But pacer Naveen Ul Haq and Khan took four wickets each to restrict Bangladesh to 105, just short of their revised target of 114 in 17 overs after several rain delays.
Following Tendulakr’s praise, Kahn responded with a “Thank you Sachin sir” post.
Afghanistan are scheduled to face South Africa in the first semi-final on Thursday.
