New Delhi: WWE superstar Randy Orton recently revealed that he auditioned for the part of supervillain Cable in the American superhero film Deadpool 2. The Ryan Reynolds titular was released in May 2018 which saw Hollywood actor Josh Brolin playing the villainous part. Brolin also notably played another supervillain Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Orton, in a discussion on Cody Rhodes’ podcast, “What Do You Want To Talk About,” said despite his hopes, the role went to Brolin. In the episode that lasted about an hour, the two WWE legends covered several aspects of Orton’s life, both on and off the wrestling ring. Orton didn’t hide back that he is an occasional auditioner for movies.
“I remember I got an audition early on when I finally got some representation in that industry. I read for Cable in Deadpool 2. In my head, I was going to be Cable. I was like, ‘This is it.’ (But…) Nope. No callback, no nothing,” Orton remembered about his experience as he auditioned for the superhero flick. Orton said that although he didn’t hear back from the makers, he realised that Brolin had landed the part.
Orton admitted that despite him occasionally auditioning for films, his primary focus remained professional wrestling rather than acting. The 43-year-old wrestler expressed his love for the sport and also showed gratitude towards everything that wrestling has given him which indicated that he won’t be quitting the field anytime soon.
Would Orton have been a better Cable?
It is undoubted that Brolin played his part of Cable excellently but one can’t overlook Orton when it comes to the physique of the comic book character. The Viper’s physique might send one into second thoughts for that. Cable aka Nathan Summers is depicted as having an imposing physique in the comic books as he stands 6 feet 8 inches tall and weighs over 350 pounds.
While Orton is a bit smaller in height and lesser in weight, standing at 6 feet 5 inches and weighing 250 pounds, he is any day larger than Brolin who is 5 feet 10 inches tall. It is understood that had Orton landed the part, his career would have seen a significant shift. With the likes of superstars John Cena, Batista, and The Rock already going big in Hollywood, the Legend Killer could have been another addition to the WWE ring.
