Ravi Shastri celebrates India’s 1983 WC win anniversary with Sunil Gavaskar, Roger Binny & Pant

New Delhi: Former India cricketer and head coach Ravi Shastri celebrated India’s historic 1983 World Cup win with his teammates and modern cricketers.

Kapil Dev-led team surprised everyone across the cricketing world and won their maiden ODI World Cup by defeating two-time champions West Indies at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground. The World Cup win paved the way for India’s rise as a cricketing nation.

Shastri took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and shared some pictures where he was seen cutting the cake with the BCCI president Roger Binny, legendary Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar and current Indian cricketers Rishabh Pant and Mohammed Siraj.

The 1983 World Cup final was played between India and West Indies. West Indies won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Kapil Dev-led India managed to score 183 runs. Andy Roberts picked up three wickets and Larry Gomes, Michael Holding and Malcolm Marshall took two wickets each. Indian bowlers did a fantastic job as West Indies was bundled out for 140 runs and India won the match by 43 runs.

Mohinder Amarnath won the Man of the Match in the final, he scored 26 runs with the bat and also picked up three wickets. Madan Lal also took three wickets and Balwinder Sandhu also picked up two wickets.

India to face defending champions England in Semi-Final

India will take on England in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024 at Providence Stadium in Guyana on June 27. Rohit Sharma and Co. are undefeated in the tournament while England lost one match in the group stage against Australia and one match in Super 8 against South Africa.

Both teams last faced each other in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022 where England defeated India by 10 wickets and lifted the trophy by beating Pakistan in the final at the MCG.
