New Delhi: Team India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is on the cusp of completing a rare double in the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The world no.1 Test all-rounder will be returning to action for India for the first time since the T20 World Cup 2024. Revitalised after a well-deserved break, Jadeja will be hoping to get into the rhythm quickly with the ball in the Bangladesh series.

Despite facing intense competition from Axar Patel, Jadeja is likely to retain his spot as India’s first-choice all-rounder in Tests and will reunite with R Ashwin in the series opener against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Jadeja is only six wickets from away from completing 300 wickets in Test cricket for India.

The left-arm spinner currently has 294 wickets to his name in 72 Test matches. If he manages to take six wickets in the upcoming series against Bangladesh, Jadeja will become only the 3rd Indian after R Ashwin and Kapil Dev to achieve the rare double of 3,000 runs and 300 wickets in the longest format. Jadeja already has 3036 runs to his name in Tests.

Indians with 300 wickets and 3000 runs in Tests:

Kapil Dev – 5248 runs, 434 wickets

R Ashwin – 3309 runs, 516 wickets

Jadeja will also become only the seventh Indian bowler after the likes of Kapil, Ashwin, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma to complete 300 wickets in Test cricket. One of the finest all-rounders to have played for India, Jadeja has played an instrumental role in helping India dominate in Tests at home.

India to play 3 spinners in Chennai Test vs Bangladesh?

As per reports, India might field an XI consisting of three spinners in the 1st Test against Bangladesh at Chepauk, which has offered turning tracks traditionally. Kuldeep Yadav might pip Axar Patel in the playing XI and join the duo of Ashwin and Jadeja in the spin attack. Spin has been the key for India at home and the spinners will have to be on top of their game to ensure India bring down high-flying Bangladesh.

Axar’s absence will however, mean their will be added responsibility on the shoulders of Jadeja and Ashwin to contribute significantly with the bat in the lower middle order.
