New Delhi: In a major transfer development, Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold on a six-year contract running from June 1, 2025, to June 30, 2031. The agreement comes after Liverpool agreed to an early release clause, enabling the 26-year-old to leave before his contract expired on June 30, when he would have been eligible to depart on a free transfer.
The move ensures that Alexander-Arnold will be available in time for Real Madrid’s campaign in the expanded FIFA Club World Cup, which kicks off on June 14 in the United States. FIFA has approved a special registration window from June 1 to June 10 for clubs to include new signings ahead of the prestigious tournament.

Alexander-Arnold leaves Liverpool as one of the most decorated players of his generation, having won nine major titles with the Merseyside club. His honours include the UEFA Champions League, Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Premier League, FA Cup, two League Cups, and the FA Community Shield.
The England international, who joined Liverpool’s youth academy at the age of six, has made 353 appearances for the club, scoring 23 goals and providing 86 assists. Earlier this month, he revealed that he had made the difficult decision to leave his boyhood club in search of a new challenge, both personally and professionally.
At Real Madrid, he will reunite with England teammate Jude Bellingham and former Liverpool and Real midfielder Xabi Alonso, who has succeeded Carlo Ancelotti as Madrid boss after the club failed to win a major domestic or European trophy for the first time since the 2020-21.
What next?
This landmark move marks the beginning of a new era for both Alexander-Arnold and Real Madrid as they aim for fresh glory on the world stage in the upcoming Club World Cup.
