New Delhi: Rebel Wilson opened up not long ago about her relationship with food and a brief experience with Ozempic as well. The 44-year-old Australian actress spoke about the same while promoting her memoir Rebel Rising. Wilson revealed in her books how she relied on food as a coping mechanism especially when she grew up around her late father, with whom she shared an abusive relationship. Furthermore, she revealed that at that time, she was not dealing with emotions properly and eating mindlessly. But 2020 onwards, she embarked upon a weight loss journey and the actress revealed that she lost 80 pounds in four years.
Wilson had relied upon various weight loss methods, even a brief stint with Ozempic, a diabetes drug which is famed for its weight loss effects. The comedian revealed that she did not use the drug until after weight loss. However, the weekly injection helped her come in shape and sustain it as well. And while reducing the extra kilos, the same also helped her stay curvy and strong. However, the comic is not taking the same any longer.
What is Ozempic?
Ozempic, also known as semaglutide, is a popular drug used to combat obesity and treat type-2 diabetes. Doctors say that it can also help with weight loss. Research suggests that people can lose up to five pounds per month with this drug, but the same depends on several factors such as initial weight, diet, workout, dosage and comorbidities if any. According to a study, people who took the drug for four years can lose approximately 10% if their body weight and also sustain the weight loss. But stopping the drug can often lead to regaining the lost weight.
Side effects of weight loss drugs
Drugs like Ozempic work by suppressing appetite to induce and speed up weight loss. But there are some downsides as well. While Ozempic is not a weight loss drug, it, too, can have some side effects, one of the most common ones being Ozempic butt, a comcept wherein one is left with sagging skin after rapid weight loss.
