New Delhi: Rishabh Pant was at his chirpy best behind the stumps during the recently concluded first Test match between India and Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Pant enjoyed some banter with Indian skipper Rohit Sharma on Day 4 of the Test match and ended up poking fun at him after a DRS blunder from the Hitman.
During Bangladesh’s second innings, Pant urged Rohit to take a review after a caught-behind appeal off R Ashwin’s bowling. Pant looked confident that the batter had edged the ball and tried his best to convince Rohit to opt for DRS. But the Indian skipper turned down the wicket-keeper’s request asking him to shut up. However, the replays showed the ball did brush off the batter’s gloves.
Had Rohit taken the review, the decision would have gone in India’s favour. The incident happened during the 62nd over of Bangladesh’s 2nd innings when Ashwin was bowling against tail-ender Hasan Mahmud with India only one wicket away from victory. After witnessing the replays that showed the batter would have been given out had DRS been taken, Pant decided to mock Rohit with a big laugh.
“Aisa karega na toh jo sach wala hoga wo bhi nahi le paunga main (If you will do this, I won’t be able to take reviews even in genuine cases),” Rohit was seen telling Pant after hurling expletives at him, asking him to stay quiet.
“Out tha (It was out),” Pant hit back at Rohit after the replays showed that the batter had edged the ball. “Abe yaar replay dekh toh lo (At least see the replay),” added the keeper while laughing at the Indian skipper’s DRS blunder. The video of the banter between Pant and Rohit has gone viral on social media.
