New Delhi: After the culmination of the Indian Premier League 2025 on June 3, Indian players are set to embark on their new big assignment which will be the Test series against England. The tour to England will comprise of five Test matches with the first one starting on June 20 at Headingly, Leeds. The tour will end on August 4 2025 with the fifth and final Test match scheduled to take place in Kennington Oval.
According to a report in the Times of India, the first batch of the Indian Test team will depart for England on June 6. The report further mentions that the first batch will comprise of head coach Gautam Gambhir, accompanied by some players. Though the squad for Team India is yet to be announced, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is busy finalising the departure schedule for the time for now. Additionally, the support staff members are expected to join Team India in England directly as they are not in the country.
The Indian players who are not part of the IPL or the playoffs are expected to depart in the first batch with coach Gambhir while the remaining players will leave at a later date after a few days. The India A squad is also expected to leave for England on May 25 in batches and the announcement for the squad, which was expected in this week, has been delayed due to the rearranged IPL schedule.
Rohit, Kohli’s departure big blow for India
With the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli coming in a gap of just six days, Indian team management are busy in some hard work trying to find replacements for the stalwarts. Names such as Jasprit Bumrah, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant are rumoured to be in the race for Test captaincy while Karun Nair and Harshit Rana are also expected to be picked. Ignored for the Australia series, Shardul Thakur is also expected to feature in the Test team.
