New Delhi: Rohit Sharma became the showstopper for the Mumbai crowd as he returned home after clinching the T20 World Cup 2024, captaining the Indian cricket team and garnering massive praise all over the world. For Rohit, the welcome wasn’t just limited to the victory parade or the felicitation ceremony as his childhood friends made their way to the Indian skipper to surprise him with a grand welcome.
Rohit had all the reasons to steal the spotlight as being a Mumbai local and a skipper who just had the World Cup as his only goal, he fulfilled the dreams of a million Indians who supported the Men in Blue. Rohit’s friends were also accompanied by Tilak Varma, Rohit’s compatriot and Mumbai Indians’ teammate. In a video that has gone viral on the internet, Rohit can be seen lifted on his shoulders and getting a garland around his neck as a mark of respect.
The World Cup triumph wasn’t just another trophy for Indians and this was clearly showcased in each of the celebrations that happened across the country. Rohit’s friends had a rather unique way of surprising him as they first stood in a row to give him a grand salute and then moved towards him with the iconic “Ric Flair walk,” just as he did while walking to receive the trophy in Barbados.

All wore the same T-shirts that had Rohit’s picture on it and as they got to the Indian skipper, they raised him in the air and jumped continuously to welcome him heartwarmingly.
Team India in Mumbai
Rohit earlier took part in the victory parade and the felicitation ceremony as he landed in Mumbai with the entire Indian outfit from Delhi after a hectic schedule. The scheduled event got delayed for upto two hours due to the team’s late arrival in Mumbai which brought showers in the evening that further troubled the police personnel. Roads were jammed as thousands thronged to the streets to wait for their World Cup heroes but it was all worth it.
The team boarded an open bus from Nariman Point and cruised their way till the Wankhede Stadium amidst a huge crowd that seemed to have tumbled all the records of presence. The India players waved at their fans and flaunted the T20 World Cup trophy and headed to the Wankhede Stadium for the felicitation ceremony where they gave speeches, danced their hearts out, took a lap of honour and were handed a cheque of Rs. 125 crore by the BCCI as the prize money for the World Cup glory.
Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai return stood apart from rest of Team India’s homecoming as the Mumbai local received a grand welcome from his childhood buddies and close family members with Tilak Varma joining them as well.
