New Delhi: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper Rishabh Pant has been handed a hefty fine of Rs 30 lakh for maintaining slow over rate during the team’s big defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) IPL 2025 clash. The rest of the members of the playing XI, including the Impact Player, were handed a penalty of Rs 12 lakh for the IPL Code of Conduct breach in the last league match of the edition.
The IPL released a statement regarding the same saying that this was the side’s third offence of the season under the Code of Conduct and hence they have been imposed the fine.
‘As it was his team’s third offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Rishabh Pant was fined Rs 30 Lakh,’ an IPL media release stated.
‘The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either Rs 12 Lakh or 50 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.’
Pant’s ton in vain
Captain Rishabh Pant’s sensational hundred went in vain as LSG lost the game by six wickets to the Royals Challengers at the Ekana stadium in Lucknow. In just 61 balls, Pant scored 118 runs showcasing his class and temperament, which was lacking in the earlier matches of the league. The mammoth chase of 228 runs wasn’t hectic for the RCB side as the batters flourished with their knocks to power the side to a win with eight balls to spare.
Virat Kohli and Philip Salt set the perfect base for the visitors with scores of 54 and 30 while Jitesh Sharma, who was the stand-in skipper and Mayank Agarawal then joined hands for a match-winning partnership. Jitesh smashed 85 runs while Mayank scored 41 runs.
The win helped RCB advance to Qualifier 1 in which they will take on Punjab Kings at Mullanpur, Chandigarh on Thursday.
