New Delhi: Rishabh Pant produced a dazzling display with the bat during India’s second innings on Day 2 of the ongoing 5th Test against Australia in Sydney on Saturday as he smashed the second-fastest fifty by an Indian in Tests. Pant completed his half-century off just 29 balls and finished with a sensational knock of 61 runs off just 33 balls laced with 6 fours and 4 sixes.
Pant’s quickfire fifty was studded with some of his signature unorthodox shots as he made a mockery of the Australian bowling attack. The swashbuckling left-hander ditched the cautious approach to play his natural game and looked fearless as he continued to go after the Aussie pacers. Pant smashed two sixes off consecutive deliveries against Mitchell Starc en route to his blazing fifty.
Pant walked out to bat at no.5 with India in a spot of bother at 59/3 having lost Virat Kohli cheaply on 6. However, he took the attack to the Australian bowlers from the onset and remained unfazed under pressure. Pant completed his fifty off 29 balls with a huge six against Starc over deep mid-wicket in the 22nd over.
He smashed the next one, a length delivery from Starc, once again over deep mid-wicket for another six. Pant lit up the crowd at SCG with his six-hitting heroics as fans relished his big-hitting prowess against one of the best pacers in the game.

Though he missed out on breaking his own record of fastest fifty for India in Tests which came in 28 balls, Pant managed to complete his half-century in just 29 balls. Pant holds the record for the fastest fifty by an Indian in Tests having smashed a 28-ball hundred against Sri Lanka in a Test match in Bengaluru in 2022.
