New Delhi: Rodrigo Bentancur reassured fans following a frightening collapse during Tottenham’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg. The 27-year-old midfielder fell awkwardly while attempting a header in the opening minutes, causing immediate concern.

Medical staff rushed to the scene, treating Bentancur on the pitch for nearly ten minutes before he was stretchered off. He received oxygen and was taken to the hospital for further tests. At half-time, Tottenham confirmed that Bentancur was conscious and speaking.

In the early hours of Thursday, Bentancur shared a positive update on Instagram. “All good, guys! Thank you for the messages!!! Congratulations [for] the victory boys!!!” he shared alongside a smiling photo where he gave a thumbs-up.

 

 

 

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou expressed relief after the game, saying, “He was conscious when he left the pitch. We sent him to the hospital for observation, and early signs are positive.”

The incident occurred just six minutes into the game when Bentancur attempted a diving header from a corner but landed awkwardly without contact from any Liverpool player. His collapse left players and fans visibly shaken.

Medical personnel swiftly attended to the Uruguayan international, stabilising him before he was stretchered off. Tottenham later confirmed via social media that he was responsive and undergoing tests as a precaution.

Despite the scare, Spurs maintained their composure and delivered a crucial win. Teenage star Lucas Bergvall secured the victory with an 86th-minute goal, snapping Liverpool’s 24-match unbeaten streak across all competitions.

Postecoglou praised his team’s resilience, stating, “It was tough to see Rodrigo go down, but the players managed the situation brilliantly.”

Tottenham now head into the second leg at Anfield with a slim advantage, aiming for a spot in the final and a chance at the season’s first trophy. Bentancur’s positive update will surely lift spirits within the squad.
