World Matchplay Darts’ Schedule Change

The World Matchplay darts session on Sunday night was originally set to begin at 19:00, however, the day’s play has been pushed ahead to avoid clashing with the UEFA Euro final.

Now, the matches will be played at noon and will take place at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens. Ross Smith will take on Josh Rock, Danny Noppert will face James Wade, Dimitri van den Bergh will challenge Martin Schindler, and Stephen Bunting will take on Ryan Joyce.

With Rob Cross taking on Gian van Veen, Joe Cullen going up against Brendan Dolan, Peter Wright going up against Andrew Gilding, and Dave Chisnall going up against Krzysztof Ratajski, the later session will now begin at 16:30. This schedule was confirmed by the Professional Darts Corporation after England triumphed over the Netherlands.

Comedian busy watching the final

Popular British comedian John Bishop is an ardent fan of the game and a huge Liverpool supporter. He was scheduled to perform at Wolverhampton at 20:00 hrs, the same time England play Spain, but has now decided to prepone his gig so that he can watch the big game.

He announced on his social media with the hashtag #itscominghome that the show has now been moved to the afternoon and anyone who can’t come at the revised time will be given a refund. He said in his post that he’ll be busy watching the game and hence can’t perform the show at 8 pm.

Popular Chain Closes Early

Tesco had announced that if England advanced to the final, the massive supermarket chain would close more than 1,800 Express stores early on Sunday. Larger supermarkets will close earlier than kickoff due to Sunday trading restrictions, however, smaller Express outlets will close at 19:30 so that staff members can watch the game.

In addition to receiving their regular compensation for those hours, staff members who choose not to watch the game will also get their regular compensation for that day.

Before the victory, Kevin Tindall, managing director of Tesco’s UK shops, stated, “We appreciate just how much this would mean to so many of our colleagues, and we want them to be able to celebrate with their family and friends.”
