New Delhi: Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Rohit Sharma failed to deliver in his side’s opening clash against Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Sunday. The senior batter was dismissed for a duck as Mumbai Indians were restricted to 155/9 in 20 against their arch-rivals CSK at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Rohit opened the batting for Mumbai Indians with South Africa batter Ryan Rickelton after the Mumbai Indians lost the toss and were asked to bat first in the blockbuster clash. The Hitman was expected to get his team off to a solid start but he failed to do so as he was sent packing for a 4-ball duck by left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed.

Rohit was caught by Shivam Dube as he walked back without managing to open his account in the game. It was his 18th duck in the IPL as the former Mumbai Indians skipper achieved an unwanted record. Rohit now has the joint-most ducks by any batter in IPL history along with Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik.

Most ducks in IPL:

Rohit Sharma – 18

Glenn Maxwell – 18

Dinesh Karthik – 18

Though his IPL form has not been great over the last few years, Rohit finished as the leading run-getter for Mumbai Indians last season with 417 runs from 14 matches. He was expected to start the season on a high, fresh from leading India to Champions Trophy glory. However, Rohit looked jittery at the start of MI’s innings and perished after a sloppy short into the fielder’s hands.
