New Delhi: One week after calling it quits from the Test format, Indian stalwart Rohit Sharma was felicitated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at his residence, Varsha, in Mumbai on Tuesday. During the meeting, the Maharashtra CM lauded Rohit’s contribution to India’s Test team in the last 11 years.
The 38-year-old Mumbai batter announced his decision to retire just ahead of the squad announcement for the England tour which is set to commence on June 20 at Headingley. Just six days after the former Indian Test skipper announced retirement, another veteran Virat Kohli also called it quits from the longest format of the game.

After missing his initial debut opportunity in 2010 due to an ankle injury, Rohit finally made his Test debut in 2013 with a sensational 177 against the West Indies in Kolkata. For the next few years, he did not have much success in the middle-order but once he was promoted to the opening slot in 2019, fortunes changed for the Mumbaikar.
At the new position, he scored remarkable knocks, including a double century (212) against South Africa in Ranchi. Having already retired from T20Is, Rohit will only bee seen in the ODI format.
