New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has nominated Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah for the Player of the month award for June. Both the players played pivotal roles in powering India to the T20 World Cup triumph in Barbados after they brushed aside South Africa in a thrilling final clash.
Rohit played majestic role on the field in almost every match and led India to the ICC crown after a long-pending gap of 11 years. The opening batter emerged as the second-highest run-scorer in the showpiece event with 257 runs to his name, with a batting average of 36 and a superlative strike rate of 156. In the final Super Eight clash, the skipper played a match-winning knock of 92 runs while displayed brilliance again in the semifinal clash against England with a 57-run knock.
India’s pace spreadhead Jasprit Bumrah is another nominee for the player of the month award. Bumrah delivered for Team India all through the tournament, showcasing some brilliant performances with the ball. The lethal pacer displayed consistency and wicket-taking ability right till the summit clash. Bumrah picked as many as 15 wickets and turned out to be one if the most economical bowlers. His wicket in the all-important final clash was considered as the turning point of the game.
Gurbaz makes it to the list
Apart from these two Indian stalwarts, Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz has also been nominated for the player of the month award. Gurbaz played a pivotal role in Afghanistan’s rise in the tournament, where they managed to reach the semifinals. With 281 runs to his name, he emerged as the leading run-scorer of the tournament and maintained consistency all through. Among his valuable knocks were 80 against New Zealand and 60 against Australia resulting in historic wins.
