Rohit Sharma struggles against Devdutt Padikkal in training – WATCH

New Delhi: Rohit Sharma has struggled to score freely in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Test series against Australia and concerns over his form rose manifold ahead of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.

The India skipper’s footage of getting dismissed to part-time spinner Devdutt Padikkal in a training session has sparked fresh concerns among fans of the national cricket team in social media.

The right hander missed the series opener at Perth owing to the birth of his second child. On return to the playing XI, he has been dismissed cheaply in the second and third Tests at Adelaide and Brisbane, respectively.

His three innings in the series has produced only 19 runs and things don’t look bright ahead of the fourth Test as he batted against spinners at nets.

‘Endgame’

Rohit faced the spin of Padikkal, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar in training. In video footage circulated on social media, he could be seen getting beaten by a delivery that kept low and getting struck on the pads in a potential leg before wicket dismissal.

Rohit has endured a dry spell in red-ball cricket in recent times, scoring only 152 runs in 13 innings at an average of 11.69, with only one half-century since September.

After the drawn Test at Adelaide’s Gabba, Rohit spoke on his batting and accepted his shortcoming.

“I have not batted well. There’s no harm in accepting that. But I know what’s in my mind, how I’m preparing myself. All those boxes are very much ticked. It’s just about spending as much time as possible, which I’m pretty sure I’m just there,” he said at the post-match press conference.

“As long as my mind, my body, my feet are moving well, I’m pretty happy with how things are panning out for me. Sometimes those numbers can tell you that it’s been a while since he’s got big runs.

“But for a person like me, it’s all about how I feel in my mind, what kind of prep I’m having before each game, and how I’m feeling about myself. That’s the most important thing. And I’m feeling good about myself, to be honest. Runs are obviously not showing that, but inside it’s a different feeling,” he added.
