New Delhi: Rohit Sharma’s mother, Purnima shared an edited picture of her son Rohit Sharma posing with the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy with ‘brother’ Virat Kohli after India’s memorable triumph in the recently concluded tournament. India defeated South Africa by 7 runs in the final to end their long-standing ICC trophy drought and clinch their second T20 World Cup title.

Both Rohit and Kohli played a key role in India’s title triumph. Rohit led from the front with the bat throughout the tournament and finished as the second-highest run-getter of the competition with 257 runs from 8 matches at an excellent average of 36.71 and an impressive strike rate of 156.71. Kohli had a lacklustre tournament otherwise but turned up in the final when India were under pressure.

The star batter slammed a brilliant knock of 76 runs which propelled India to a strong total of 176 runs on the board despite a poor start. In the special picture shared by Rohit’s mother, Rohit and Kohli can be seen holding the trophy together with her granddaughter, Samaira sitting on her father’s shoulder.

The edited image had a caption saying ‘GOAT duo of T20 cricket’ at the top and another caption – ‘Daughter on his shoulders, nation on his back, brother on his side’ at the bottom. The post has gone viral and garnered a lot of love from fans across the nation.

Rohit, Kohli retire from T20Is after World Cup glory

Rohit and Kohli both announced their retirement from T20Is after helping India clinch the T20 World Cup 2024 title. The duo signed off on a high from the shortest format but will continue to represent India in Tests and ODIs. Rohit retired as the leading run-getter in T20Is with 4231 runs from 159 matches at an average of over 32 and a strike rate of 140.89.

Kohli will bid adieu to the format as the second-highest run-getter of all time, only behind Rohit. He has 4188 runs 125 matches at an average of 48.69 and a strike rate of 137.04, including 38 fifties and 1 century. Kohli was named the Player of the Match in the final for his 76-run knock which meant he bagged a Player of the Match award in his first and final T20I match for India.
