Rohit to be dropped from Test team after BGT, Kohli next in queue – Report

New Delhi: It seems like Rohit Sharma might have played his last match in whites at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). No matter how much shocking it might sound but rumours have started doing the rounds that the Indian skipper, who was dropped for the Sydney Test, has been conveyed by the team selectors that he is no longer required in the longest format of the game after the culmination of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

According to a report in the Indian Express, Rohit will not be part of the selectors plan beyond the ongoing Test series against Australia and he was communicated the same ahead of the Sydney Test. The report also mentions that selectors will meet seasoned batter Virat Kohli as well after the BGT is over to discuss the road ahead as the team is set for the biggest-ever overhaul. Other senior players like KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja will continue to remain in the scheme of things for now.

Rohit’s poor performance in BGT

It is being learnt that the decision to drop Rohit was taken with head coach Gautam Gambhir after meeting with the chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar. Reports also circulated that the Indian skipper himself opted out of the series finale. As far as hi performance as batter is concerned, Rohit scored just 31 runs in as many as 5 innings with a highest score of 10.

The senior batter registered scores of 3, 6, 10, 3 & 9, showing no signs of ending his miserable performance and low confidence. The same reflected on the field during his captaincy as well as he failed to strategize things ending in India losing as many as  two games in the five-match series. The Indian team selectors will take a decision soon regarding the 50-over format as they have to be well-equipped before the all-important Champions Trophy.

Indian selectors have communicated to Rohit Sharma that he is no longer in their scheme of things in the longest format after the BGT 2024-25.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
