New Delhi: Ronald Koeman, has taken the wise decision to leave Frenkie de Jong out of his roster for the Nations League matches in October. De Jong is now returned to fitness after a protracted stint out with an ankle ailment that saw him miss Euro 2024 with the Dutch side.
The Dutch midfielder, who returned from injury during the midweek victory over Young Boys, is anticipated to play again on Sunday against Alaves. It seems likely that he will be coming off the bench trying to make his presence felt. After that, De Jong will have some time off to focus on his fitness over the international break, since Koeman hasn’t added him to his most recent lineup.
In the upcoming weeks, the Netherlands will play Germany and Hungary in the Nations League; De Jong will be watching the games from Barcelona. In their next La Liga matchup against Sevilla, the Catalans could see De Jong start for the first time this year.

Barcelona will be glad to hear that De Jong won’t be a part of the Nations League and will be getting the rest during international break. Considering the fact that the Dutch midfielder has been one of the most injury prones players in Europe, missing a good chunk of matches for the Catalan side ever since he made his move from Ajax. However, it will be interesting to see if Hansi Flick will be willing to utilise what the Dutch has to offer on the pitch.
Last season, De Jong made a total of 20 appearances for FC Barcelona and he proved to be a solid asset whenever he was brought on to the pitch. The Dutch international scored twice in those 20 games and this international break might just give him the rest that he needs after suffering that injury back in April.
Frenkie De Jong will not be joining Ronald Koeman’s Duth squad for the Nations League, which might turn out to be a good news for FC Barcelona. Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
