New Delhi: Ryan Rickelton smashed the first century of 2025 in Test cricket during the New Year’s Test against Pakistan at Newlands in Cape Town on Friday, January 3. Sri Lankan batter Kusal Perera became the first centurion of 2025. He smashed the fastest T20I century for Sri Lanka in the third T20I match against New Zealand.
Rickelton started the new year by scoring his second Test century in 135 balls on Day 1 of the second Test in Cape Town. He scored his maiden Test hundred during the second Test against Sri Lanka in December, 2024. The South African opener smashed 14 boundaries during his sensational innings. He completed his hundred in style by smashing a boundary against Salman Agha. The Pakistani all-rounder bowled a full delivery down the leg side and Rickelton played it past the wicketkeeper to the fine leg.

South Africa 184/3 at tea on Day 1
South Africa got off to a great start after opting to bat first in the second Test as Aiden Markram and Rickelton stitched a 61-run partnership for the first wicket. Khurram Shahzad provided Pakistan with their first breakthrough and dismissed Markram on 17 runs. The visitors picked up two wickets in quick succession to put the Proteas under pressure. Mohammad Abbas removed Wiaan Mulder on 5 runs while Salman Agha dismissed Tristan Stubbs on a duck.
Captain Temba Bavuma and Rickelton forged an unbeaten 112 runs partnership for the fourth wicket at tea to put South Africa back on top in the second Test. Temba Bavuma and Co. leading the two-match Test series by 1-0. They defeated the visitors by 2 wickets in the thrilling first Test match and qualified for the final of the World Test Championship (WTC).
