New Delhi: As the rumours of India’s tennis icon Sania Mirza about to marry Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami started floating around the internet, Sania’s father has come out and has broken his silence over the heated matter. Widespread speculations were circulating on social media that the tennis ace is set to marry the Indian paceman. While the news wasn’t confirmed, both stayed on the radar of the rumours.
Neither the former tennis star nor the pace stalwart spoke on the rumours which started circulating on social media at the beginning of the year as soon as the headlines of Sania’s divorce broke the internet. The netizens started speculating that Sania was seeing Shami and later the news of their marriage started doing the rounds on the internet.
But… Sania’s father has set the record straight, brushing off all the rumours that went all the way up in the past week. There is no truth to the wedding rumours as told by Sania’s father Imran. “This is all rubbish. She has not even met him,” Sania’s father told NDTV, firmly making it the bottom line.
Sania and Shami’s divorce
Sania and Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik were divorced in January after the latter confirmed his marriage to Pakistani actress Sana Javed. Sania got married to the Pakistani all-rounder in Hyderabad in 2010 and lived in Dubai thereafter.
A few reports revealed a three-year affair between Shoaib and Sana while the cricketer was still married to Sania, who wasn’t happy with her marriage.
Meanwhile, Shami was married to Haseen Jahan and both started living separately since 2018 after she accused him of domestic violence and adultery. In 2023, a Kolkata court ordered Shami to pay a monthly alimony of Rs. 50,000 to his estranged wife, four years after she made several allegations against the pacer.
