New Delhi: Former India cricketer and batting coach Sanjay Bangar’s son Aryan shared his 10-month hormonal transformation journey in a video on social media. In an Instagram reel that has gone viral since it was first shared, the 23-year-old shared pictures with former India skippers MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli and his father before the transformation and the images post-hormone replacement operation.
10 months after the surgery, the Aryan, a former cricketer, identifies herself as Anaya. Following the footsteps of his father, Aryan, a left-handed batter, pursued cricket left-handed batter and played for Islam Gymkhana in local club cricket. He also played for Hinckley Cricket Club in Leicestershire and amassed a bucketload of runs.

No space for trans women in cricket
Anaya’s sensational revelation also highlighted the impact of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) on her cricket-playing abilities. As the body changed, the muscle mass, strength, and stamina that had once been the strengths began to diminish.
While she wants to play cricket, the current rules don’t allow trans women in cricket. Anaya opened up on the current environment where trans women are often forced out of the game irrespective of how talented they are. She lamented the unfortunate situation and the lack of evolution in sports in terms of gender identity.
Sanjay Bangar, a former all-rounder of the Indian cricket team, has also worked as the batting coach of Team India from 2014 to 2018. In Indian Premier League (IPL), he took the role of the head coach of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 2022 edition and also worked as head of cricket development for Punjab Kings.
