New Delhi: Indian wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan is doubtful for the first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024. The tournament is set to begin on Thursday, September 5 in Bengaluru and Anantapur. The reason for Kishan’s unavailability is still unclear but as per the Cricbuzz reports he may be carrying an injury.
The wicket-keeper batter recently participated in the Buchi Babu tournament in Chennai and scored a century for Jharkhand. However, as per the latest reports, Ishan could miss the initial part of the Duleep Trophy and his participation in the later stages is also doubtful.
He is part of the Shreyas Iyer-led Team D which is set to face Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Team C in the opener, followed by their second match against Team A from September 12 in Anantapur. In the Buchi Babu tournament, Kishan played two matches before his team was eliminated from the tournament. He scored 155 runs in two innings against Madhya Pradesh, including a century but failed in the second match against Hyderabad.
Kishan was dropped from the national team due to disciplinary issues after he skipped Ranji Trophy matches despite clear instructions from the BCCI. Earlier, India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav suffered a hand injury during the Buchi Babu Tournament and is currently undergoing treatment at the NCA in Bengaluru.
Sanju Samson to replace Kishan for the first round of the Duleep Trophy
As per the Cricbuzz report, Sanju Samson will replace Ishan Kishan in the tournament. He last played in the second and third T20I against Sri Lanka and failed to open his account in both matches.
