New Delhi: Indian pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty bowed out of the Malaysia Super 1000 badminton tournament in Kuala Lumpur after suffering a loss in the semifinals of the event. Their impressive run at the badminton event came to an end after they suffered a straight game loss to Korea’s Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae.

Satwik and Chirag, seeded seventh, had reached the finals of the same event last season. Meanwhile, the Indian pair exited after losing 10-21,15-21 in a 40-minute semifinal clash. The first set of the semis clash did not prove that good for the Indian pair as the Korean duo dominated them right from the word go. But Satwik and Chirag bounced back in then second set to a certain extent, showcasing intent and control over the game.

At a moment, it looked like the game will go into the deciding set after the Indian pair made it 11-8 at the interval but they could not maintain their momentum, allowing the Koreans to recover and seal the clash comfortably.

‘They played really well, and we could have followed our game plan a bit better. Instead, we played some random strokes, but kudos to them for playing a solid game,’ Satwik told reporters after the match ended. ‘They are not giving away any easy points, and that’s their best quality. We have to work hard for every point, and that’s exactly what happened today,’ the Indian shuttler added.
