Mumbai: The holy month of Sawan or Shravan, deeply revered in Sanatan Dharma, is set to begin from 11 July 2025 and will continue till 9 August 2025. Widely considered one of the most auspicious months in the Hindu calendar, Sawan holds special significance for devotees of Lord Shiva. It is believed that during this period, Mahadev – the supreme deity of transformation and destruction – descends upon Earth to bless his followers.

Traditionally, Mondays are dedicated to Lord Shiva, but when they occur in the month of Sawan, they carry even more spiritual weight. Known as Sawan Somwar, these days are marked by strict fasting, early morning rituals, and elaborate temple visits. Devotees believe that worshipping Lord Shiva with sincerity during this time not only brings divine blessings but also helps in fulfilling wishes, healing emotional wounds, and gaining spiritual merit.

According to the Vedic Panchang, Sawan 2025 will commence on Friday, 11 July, and conclude on Saturday, 9 August. This year, the month includes five Mondays, all of which are observed as sacred fasting days.

How to Perform Shiv Puja in Sawan

To perform the traditional Sawan Puja, devotees are advised to wake up before sunrise, take a bath, and wear clean clothes. After this, the Shivling is bathed with milk and water in a sacred ritual known as Abhishek. Offerings such as bhang, dhatura, bel leaves, sweets, fruits, and flowers are made to Lord Shiva. Devotees then chant Shiva mantras and conclude the ritual by performing a heartfelt Aarti.
