Kolkata: The broad indices of the Indian equity market Sensex 30 and Nifty 50 opened in the green on Thursday, triggered by the tailwinds of positive global cues and widespread expectation of a Repo rate cut by the Reserve Bank of India — the third in succession — that could be announced on Friday, June 6.
In early trade — around 9:15 in the morning — Sensex 30 stood at 81,093.28, points, up 95.03 (or 0.12%), while Nifty 50 was trading at 24,629.15 points, up 8.95 points (or 0.036%). According to NSE data, the early gainers were PKTEA, QUICKHEAL, NEWGEN, OSWALGREEN, DCAL, WELSPUNLIV, SURAJLTD, WELINV, SHRADHA and KHADIM.
US, Asian indices
On June 4, Dow Jones Futures fell 0.02% but S&P500 rose 0.01% and Nasdaq rose 0.32%. All the major European indices FTSE of London, CAC of Paris and DAX of German ended in the green on Wednesday. But for Nikkei, all the major Asian indices — Hang Seng, KOSPI, Taiwan Weighted, Djakarta Composite, Straits Times were trading in the green this morning. Shanghai Composite was moving between red and green. GIFT Nifty was also trading in the green.
Indian equity market on June 4
On June 4, the equity market reversed its three-day losing streak. It ended higher maindly due to a rally in global equities. This could have been fueled by expected relief on the US-China trade talks and expectation of RBI’s rate cut. At the close of the trading session, Sensex was up 260.74 points (0.32%) and settled at 80,998.25, while Nifty was up 77.70 points (or 0.32%) to close at 24,620.20. The BSE Mid Cap and Small Cap indices went up by 0.76% and 0.58% respectively.
In the Sensex basket Eternal (3.32%), Bharti Airtel (1.82%) and Indusind Bank (1.79%) were the major major gainers and Bajaj Finserv (1.66%), Axis Bank (0.90%) and TCS (0.72%) were the major laggards.
