Kolkata: Both benchmark stock market indices Sensex and Nifty opened in the green on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. At 9:15 am, Sensex stood at 77,610.24, up 423.50 points (or 0.55%), while at the same time Nifty was trading at 23,489.50 points, up 128.45 points (or 0.55%). In early morning trade, the initial gainers included KAMATHOTEL, CASTROLIND, VINEETLAB, JAYNECOIND, PYRAMID and MOTHERSON.

Both market indices BSE Sensex and Nifty fell on February 3. Sensex climbed down 319.22 points or 0.41% to end the day’s trade at 77,186.74 points while Nifty ended the trading session at 23,361.05 points, down 121.10 points, or 0.52%. According to market analysts a few factors could impact the stock market this week such as RBI’s decision on interest rate cuts, Q3 results of different companies, FII investment flows (in or out) and global cues. One has to look out for the fallout of the Budget 2025 too.

Sentiments down in the US

Sentiments were depressed in the US markets too after President Donald Trump’s tariff principles were elaborated on Saturday. Nasdaq and S&P were down while Dow Jones Futures was up. According to reports, one of the reasons for the sentiments in the US markets was that many investors were hoping that Trump’s tariff threats would not be followed up by action. But now that the US president has started announcing country-wise policy specifics, many have started apprehending that other countries will also retaliate and an escalating trade war that damages economies worldwide, including the United States.

The major European indices such as FTSE, CAC and DAX ended in the red on Monday. However, all the Asian major indices were trading in the green on February 4. These were Nikkei, Straits Times, Hang Send, Kospi and Taiwan Weighted indices. Crude oil including Brent crude prices inched down while gold prices moved up on February 3.
