New Delhi: Services secured the top spot in the medal tally of the 38th National Games in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, achieving this milestone for the fifth time in the last six editions after a rather low-key last day of competitions on Thursday.

Services won nine more medals on the last day including three golds. Services finished second behind Maharashtra in the 2023 edition of the National Games in Goa. Before that, it had topped the medal tally in four consecutive National Games (2007, 2011, 2015 and 2022). Maharashtra and Haryana won more medals than Services but due to the lesser number of gold medals, they finished in second and third position respectively.

Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh finished in fourth and fifth spots respectively while Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Punjab and Delhi completed the top 10. Nagaland, Puducherry and Sikkim failed to win a gold medal in the competition. The closing ceremony of the 38th National Games is scheduled to be held in Haldwani on Friday with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in attendance.

Haryana defeated Madhya Pradesh in the women’s hockey final to clinch the gold medal while Jharkhand beat Maharashtra 2-1 to win the bronze medal. West Bengal and Haryana won two gold medals each on the final day of gymnastics. Maharashtra finished in first position with 24 medals in the gymnastics medal tally and West Bengal was in second position with 12 medals.

Odisha’s Tokyo Olympian Pranati Nayak won a bronze medal in the balance beam event. Parina Rahul Madanpotra of Maharashtra bagged the gold medal in the rhythmic gymnastics clubs event with a score of 25.60. Maharashtra’s Jaish Amit Modi defeated Commonwealth Games medallist Sathiyan Gnanasekaran by 7-11 6-11 11-7 11-8 14-12 6-11 11-6 to clinch the men’s singles gold medal. In the women’s singles final, Tamil Nadu’s Selena Deepthi Selvakumar beat Maharashtra’s Swastika Ghosh by 11-7 11-2 6-11 7-11 8-11 11-7 11-9 to claim the gold medal.
