New Delhi: Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi cleaned up Indian skipper Rohit Sharma with a ripper during the clash between the two sides in the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai on Sunday, February 23. Shaheen bowled a brilliant in-swinging yorker to rattle Rohit’s stumps as the Indian captain had no answers to the pacer’s brilliance in the high-pressure clash.
In pursuit of a moderate target of 242 runs, Rohit and his opening partner Shubman Gill got India off to a solid start. The Indian captain was looking in great touch as he raced to 20 off 15 balls with a host of boundaries. However, he was undone by a sensational yorker from Afridi in the 5th over as he failed to convert his start into a big score.
After being hit for a boundary on the previous delivery, Afridi made a strong comeback as he bowled a pacy in-swinging yorker which bamboozled Rohit. The Indian skipper was left startled by the pace and the precision of the yorker as he failed to defend it. The ball pierced his shaky defence to rattle his middle stump as he departed cheaply on 20.

Rohit slammed a 41-run knock in India’s opener against Bangladesh where he provided the Men in Blue with a quick start at the top to help them chase down the target of 229 runs comfortably and register a six-wicket victory. The Indian skipper was looking to replicate his heroics against Pakistan but failed to do so.

Inda staged a strong recovery after losing Rohit early in their 242-run chase against Pakistan as Gill joined hands with Virat Kohli to share a brilliant partnership of 69 runs for the second wicket. Gill scored 46 off 52 balls laced with 7 fours and was looking in magnificent touch, However, he was cleaned up by a brilliant delivery from spinner Abrar Ahmed.
After Gill’s departure, Kohli joined hands with Shreyas Iyer to form another important partnership as the duo helped India cruise in the chase. The Men in Blue are on the verge of wrapping up their second win in a row in the Champions Trophy 2025 to qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament.
