New Delhi: Kylian Mbappe’s representatives have called rape allegations against the footballer “totally false” after it was reported that the French star was under investigation for an incident in a Stockholm hotel on October 10th. Mbappe had expressed his “shock” at the report but had confirmed to his lawyer Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard for having done “nothing wrong”.
Earlier, the Swedish prosecutor had issued a statement to the media stating that a probe had been launched for an alleged rape at a hotel in central Stockholm. However, the identity of the suspect was withheld. Swedish media and dailies, including SVT, Expressen, and Aftonbladet, through unnamed sources, reported that Mbappe was a suspect in the case.

Mbappe’s representatives at public relations firm Patricia Goldman sent a statement to Reuters dismissing the claims as “slanderous rumours” circulated on the internet. The statement further said that the media reports were “false” and that their circulation was “irresponsible and “unacceptable. “
Mbappe’s lawyers respond to media queries
Further, the firm has noted that Mbappe wouldn’t tolerate accusations over his “integrity, reputation and honour” that were baseless. Canu-Bernard, in her interaction with the French media, noted that there was yet no confirmation as to who the complaint is against or targeting.
The 25-year-old’s lawyer further said that Mbappe was never alone nor exposed to risk-taking situations, and “reprehensible behaviour” from him was impossible. Canu-Bernard further noted that Mbappe wasn’t bothered by the allegations but was taken aback by the media attention to the circumstance. Mbappe’s lawyer further noted that there was no official complaint filed against Mbappe that his team could respond to.
Mbappe previously posted on his X handle that the news was completely false. The French captain had been in the Swedish capital last week along with a few friends after France gave him rest for October’s Nations League. Mbappe’s entourage left Sweden on October 11th.
Swedish media reported that a report of the allegation against Mbappe was filed with the Police the following day. Swedish Prosecution Authority had confirmed that a criminal report had been filed with the police for a suspected rape in the Nordic country’s capital city. Senior Prosecutor Marina Chirakova declined to comment on further details when approached.
Swedish media, though, have said that their sources had reported through their unnamed sources that some suspicion was pointed towards Mbappe and thought to be reasonable considering the timeline of his stay in Sweden, but there was still doubt about his involvement, which is why Mbappe hadn’t been remanded. Mbappe was spotted training with Real Madrid on Tuesday, and they haven’t responded to any media queries surrounding Mbappe’s situation.
