New Delhi: All-rounder Shivam Dube, who has made his name in cricket with his explosive batting, displayed his bowling prowess on Day 2 of the Ranji Trophy semifinal between Mumbai and Vidarbha at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur.
Dube, one of the stand-by players for India in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, claimed his third first-class five-wicket-haul in the first innings of the Ranji semifinal. Dube has not travelled with the rest of the India squad for Dubai as he is a non-travelling reserve for the marquee event.
While he is a more than handy bowler, Dube’s forte has always been batting. The tall allrounder has impressed with his explosive knocks in domestic and international cricket as well as in the Indian Premier League.
However, on Tuesday, he showed his fast bowling skills against Vidarbha. Dube took 5/49 in 11.5 overs as Mumbai restricted Vidarbha to 383 in 107 overs. The hosts were looking good for an even bigger total after half-centuries from Dhruv Shorey, Danish Malewar and Yash Rathod but Dube’s deadly spell triggered a collapse as Vidarbha lost their last six wickets for 59 runs.

Dube gives bowling masterclass ahead of Champions Trophy
Dube’s bowling masterclass is a big boost for the Indian camp ahead of the Champions Trophy. The team management will breathe easy watching one of the reserve players perform well and get into a good bowling rhythm ahead of the ICC event. If the need arises (in case of an injury/illness), the team management has the option to call an in-form player in the squad for the 50-over event. India open their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai.
Ahead of the mega-auction in Jeddah in November 2024, Dube was retained by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Rs 12 crore.
