New Delhi: Former Olympic cyclist Daniela Larreal Chirinos was reportedly found dead in her Las Vegas apartment. Multiple reports suggest that the five-time Olympian died after choking on her food. She passed away at the age of 50.
Daniela used to work at a hotel in Las Vegas but when she remained absent from work on August 12, her colleagues brought the case before the authorities. The local police officers visited her house in LA on Friday (August 16) and they found the dead body of the 50-year-old inside the apartment.
According to a report by Spanish newspaper ABC, a preliminary autopsy found the former athlete died of asphyxiation on August 11, with a post-mortem finding solid food remnants in her windpipe, though the official reason for the death is yet to be confirmed.

“The COV Board of Directors regrets the departure of Daniela Larreal. With an outstanding career in track cycling, he managed to represent us with honour in five Olympic Games, accumulate four Olympic diplomas and triumphs that always filled us with great pride,” the tweet from the committee read.

Daniela Larreal Chirinos at Olympics
Daniela Larreal Chirinos competed at five Olympics in 1992 Barcelona Games, 1996 Atlanta Games, 2000 Sydney Games, 2004 Athen Games and 2012 London Games. Her best performance came at Syndney with the Venezulean cyclist finishing eighth in the Sprint.
She won gold medal at the Pan American Games in 2011 in the Keirin and Team Sprint events. She won gold medals in the same events in the 2005 Pan American Championships.
