New Delhi: Virat Kohli slammed an unbeaten 73 to help Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) by seven wickets and bounce back to winning ways in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Sunday, April 20. It was Kohli’s 59th half-century in his IPL career, and it helped him break an all-time IPL record held by former Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain David Warner.

Kohli and Warner were tied with 66 fifty-plus scores on the elite list of batters with the most fifty-plus scores in IPL history. Kohli’s unbeaten 73 was his 67th fifty-plus score in the IPL as he surpassed Warner to claim the record for the most fifty-plus scores in the tournament. Kohli has hit 8 centuries and 59 fifties in his IPL career so far, while Warner has 4 tons and 62 fifties to his name.

Most fifty-plus scores in IPL:

Virat Kohli – 67

David Warner – 66

Shikhar Dhawan – 53

With 59 fifties to his name in his IPL career so far, Kohli needs only four more half-centuries to go past Warner in the elite list of batters with the most fifties in IPL history. Warner, the most successful overseas batter in the IPL, is not part of the ongoing season after he went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction last year. He last played for Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2024 and continues to hold the record for most runs by an overseas batter in the tournament.

RCB rode on Kohli’s unbeaten 73 and Devdutt Padikkal’s 61 off 35 balls to make light work of the target. It was their fifth win of the season as RCB moved to the third spot, pipping PBKS, who are in the fourth spot on the IPL 2025 points table.
