‘Show a little respect’: Beckham fires back at Minnesota United after Inter Miami’s loss

New Delhi: David Beckham wasn’t pleased with what followed Inter Miami’s heavy defeat to Minnesota United on Saturday night. The former England captain, who co-owns the MLS side, took issue not with the on-field result but with how the opposition celebrated it on social media.

Despite having global stars like Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba in their ranks, Inter Miami were handed a crushing 4-1 loss by Minnesota. Messi did get on the scoresheet but it wasn’t enough to avoid what was the club’s worst defeat since the Argentine superstar joined the team in July 2023.

After the win, Minnesota United didn’t hold back and posted a picture from the game on Instagram with the cheeky caption “Pink Phony Club”, a dig referencing Inter’s pink kit and a twist on the Chappell Roan song “Pink Pony Club.” To rub it in further, they shared a snapshot of the league table showing Minnesota climbing above Miami.

Beckham was not pleased with the club’s jibe and made his feelings known in the comments. “Show a little respect, be elegant in triumph,” he wrote under the post, clearly not impressed with the tone.

Minnesota weren’t done. They followed up with a post featuring a banner from their home crowd that read: “History over hype, culture over cash.” The words “hype” and “cash” were highlighted in pink, a not-so-subtle jab at Inter’s star-studded squad and high-spending reputation.

Beckham responded again, simply stating: “Respect over everything.” Beckham’s response may not change the result, but it’s a reminder that even in defeat, one should remain respectful both on and off the pitch.

Next in action?

Beckham’s side, Inter Miami, will next be seen in action on Thursday when they travel to California to face MLS side San Jose at 8 am.

Minnesota United thrashed Inter Miami 4-1 and took a cheeky dig on social media, prompting a sharp response from Miami co-owner David Beckham.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
