Shubman Gill among top players to be rested for Bangladesh T20Is

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India is thinking of resting some top names from the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh that begins on October 7.

The BCCI wants to manage the workload of its top players and has thought of taking this step. Gill is among India’s top players and is a mainstay of the team’s batting line-up alongside Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The right hand batter is expected to play most of the 10 Tests that India will play this season. India will play Bangladesh in a two Test series from September 19 in Chennai followed by the second game in Kanpur from September 27 after which they are scheduled to play in a the three- match series against New Zealand.

“Yes, Shubman will be rested for the Bangladesh T20I series. If you look at the fixture, the three T20Is will be played on October 7 (Gwalior), 10 (Delhi) and 13 (Hyderabad). Now first Test vs New Zealand starts October 16.

Apart from Tests, Gill is also a regular in white-ball teams, having played in 21 T20Is, scoring a century and three half centuries with a strike rate of 140.

In the recent five match T20 series against Zimbabwe he was named the skipper. India won the series 4-1.

In the current season, India will play a high-profile five-match Test series against in Australia in November after which there is the ICC Champions Trophy to be held in February-March.
