New Delhi: India’s batting sensation Shubman Gill is being called out after social media users noticed the “Prince” title written on his new bat. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had dropped fresh pictures of Team India’s new Test skipper Gill, who posed for a photoshoot donning the iconic dark blue blazer and the baggy blue Test cap along with a new willow, which he unveiled ahead of the upcoming England series
He had notably used the new bat during the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, also, as he flaunted it in the pictures. The bat, which he is set to use for the first time in international cricket, carried a tag of “Prince” on it, which caught the attention of the netizens. Since then, a particular set of fans has been venting their anger on Gill for being “self-obsessed”.
For the unversed, Gill is often referred to as the Prince of Indian cricket and is also touted to be the next poster boy of the Men in Blue after Virat Kohli. But… his self-declaration of the title didn’t go down well with the fans, who slammed him widely for this. While some put forth his overseas stats, which aren’t so impressive, some compared him with legends like Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar for their humble nature, as they didn’t boast about their titles.

Sachin Tendulkar never played with a bat that had “God” written over it and Virat Kohli never played with a bat that had “King” written over it. You get tags with your performances and the tags are given by the greats of the game and not from the social media.

Shubman Gill calling himself the ‘Prince’ is laughable. Five years in international cricket, still zero overseas centuries in any format, a weak 35 Test average, and a poor SENA record. Titles like ‘Prince’ are earned, not self-declared.

Yes I too had the same feeling brother, even Virat said many times please don’t call me a King, but this so called youngster is more obsessed with the tags it’s his initial days of cricket, he is not even achieving big in cricket.
