Shubman Gill, KL Rahul and Shardul Thakur shine: Who did what on Day 1 of India’s intra-squad game?

New Delhi: Skipper Shubman Gill, KL Rahil and all-rounder Shardul Thakur impressed on Day 1 of India’s intra-squad practice match against India A in Beckenham on Friday. After India A played two unofficial Test matches against England Lions, the Indian team took part in the four-day intra-squad match on Friday to finalise their preparations for the upcoming Test series against England.

The intra-squad match is being played behind closed doors in Beckenham without any coverage in the media. The game is being played to help the members of the Indian squad acclimate to the conditions in England and gear up for the all-important Test series against the hosts. BCCI shared an update on social media on Friday to reveal the top performers from Day 1 of the match.

Gill and Rahul scored half-centuries apiece in the intra-squad practice match while Thakur was among the wickets. It is not known whether Gill opened the batting or not amid speculation over his batting position in the upcoming Test series against England. While Rahul is a strong contender to open the batting with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Gill is likely to bat at no.3.

Gill would take a lot of confidence from his half-century in the practice match as he prepares to lead India in his first major assignment as the Test skipper. Gill was appointed as India’s captain for the upcoming five-match series after Rohit Sharma retired from Test cricket. The Indian skipper has only 88 runs in three Tests in England in his career so far, and will be hoping to get among the runs in the upcoming series.

Skipper Shubman Gill, KL Rahul and all-rounder Shardul Thakur did well for India on Day 1 of their intra-squad paractice match against India A on Friday. India are warming up for their upcoming five-match Test series against England.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
