New Delhi: Talented Indian opener Shubman Gill has pipped Pakistan batter Babar Azam to become the new world number one in ODIs. Gill, who has been in superb form recently, has 796 rating points to his name, which are 23 more in comparison with Babar, who has been pushed on the second spot with 773 rating points.

It is the second time in the history of ODIs that 25-year-old Gill have jumped to the number one position in the ODI rankings. Gill’s elevation in the rankings comes in the back of his fabulous performances in the recently-concluded three-match ODI series against England where she showcased his class in all the three matches.

Gill scored 87, 60 and 112 runs in the first, second and third ODI respectively, playing a pivotal role in India’s series win and also bagged the Player of the Series award. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has maintained his number three position, whereas Virat Kohli is on the sixth place with 729 rating points. Shreyas Iyer is the fourth and last Indian batter to feature in the top 10 of the latest ODI rankings. Iyer smashed couple of half-centuries in the ODI series against England and scored 44 runs in the second match.
