New Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have officially signed Smaran Ravichandran, a promising young batter from Karnataka, as a replacement for the experienced Australian leg spinner Adam Zampa. Zampa has unfortunately been ruled out of the entire IPL 2025 season due to an injury.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) confirmed this development through a social media announcement made on Monday, April 14th. While the post clearly stated Zampa’s injury as the reason for his withdrawal from the tournament, it did not elaborate on the specific nature or severity of the issue.

Ravichandran steps in to fill the vacant spot in the SRH squad. Primarily known as a versatile top-to-middle-order left-handed batter, he also possesses the ability to contribute with some bowling. He joins the Hyderabad franchise, seeking to bolster their squad depth, for his base price of INR 30 Lakh. According to the IPL statement, “Smaran Ravichandran has featured in 7 First-Class games, 10 List A matches & 6 T20s, accumulating over 1100 runs across these formats.”

This opportunity marks a significant turnaround for the 21-year-old, who went unsold during the IPL 2025 mega-auction. However, his subsequent stellar performances in domestic cricket for Karnataka likely caught the attention of several franchises. He was particularly impressive during Karnataka’s victorious Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) campaign earlier this year, amassing a substantial 433 runs, which included a crucial match-winning century. He continued his rich vein of form in the Ranji Trophy as well. This success followed his strong showing in the Maharaja Trophy, where he scored 302 runs at an average of 43.14 and an impressive strike rate of 145.19.

Interestingly, it’s understood that Ravichandran had also spent time training in the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) pre-season nets, where he reportedly impressed the coaching staff. While breaking into SRH’s powerful batting lineup immediately might be challenging, Ravichandran represents an exciting prospect. If an opportunity arises, Sunrisers Hyderabad might find they have unearthed a potential future star.

What next?

Currently sitting ninth in the points table, SRH are preparing for their next fixture against the seventh-placed Mumbai Indians, captained by Hardik Pandya. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, April 16th, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

In a major IPL 2025 update, SRH’s Adam Zampa is ruled out due to injury, with Karnataka’s rising star Smaran Ravichandran stepping in as replacement.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
