New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced the Indian women’s team squad for the upcoming ODI series at home. Star Indian batter Smriti Mandhana has been named the captain of the 15-member squad after regular skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was given rest.
Indian fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur has also been rested for the three-match ODI series, starting on January 10 in Rajkot. Uttarakhand’s Raghvi Bisht and Mumbai’s Sayali Satghare have been added to the squad from the one which was fielded against the West Indies last month.
The Ireland ODI matches will be the first for the Women in Blue in their preparatory camp as it will be a World Cup year and to add to the significance, the players will play in front of their home crowd. The upcoming matches will allow the coach and selectors to hand enough opportunities to fringe players in order to decide their core squad for the marquee event.
