New Delhi: Bollywood star Sonam Bajwa and music sensation Badshah lit up the star-studded opening ceremony of the inaugural Delhi Premier League (DPL) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday, August 17. The duo kept the crowd at the stadium glued to their seats with their performances in the opening gala.
The first edition of the tournament was declared opened by Arun Jaitley, the President of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) during the glitzy opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was preceded by the opening match of the season between Rishabh Pant’s Purani Dilli-6 and the Delhi Superstarz.
“We at the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) are incredibly proud to officially launch the inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League. This marks a historic moment for both DDCA and the capital. The league will provide a vital platform for Delhi’s players to showcase their talent and will significantly impact the future of cricket in the city,” said DDCA president Jaitley.
The opening ceremony kicked off with an energetic performance from singer Sid K before actress Sonam Bajwa took over and left the fans entertained with her moves. Badshah delivered a power-packed performance after Bajwa as the singer and his team made the entire stadium groove to his popular songs.

Rishabh Pant in action in opener
Team India wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant is in action in the ongoing season-opener of the Delhi Premier League 2024 between Purani Dilli-6 and South Delhi Superstarz. Pant is one of the marquee players in the inaugural edition of the DPL and is likely to leave the tournament midway as he will be seen in action in the Duleep Trophy 2024 next month.
Pant is leading Purani Dilli-6 in their opener against South Delhi Superstarz led by Ayush Badoni. While Pant’s team has the likes of Lalit Yadav, and Arpit Rana in their XI, Badoni-led Delhi Superstarz has the likes of Shubham Dubey and Kuldip Yadav among others. Pant will be seen in action for Team B led by Abhimanyu Easwaran in the Duleep Trophy next month to prepare for India’s upcoming 2-match Test series against Bangladesh.
