New Delhi: Axar Patel proved his worth as a crisis man of Indian cricket yet against with a superb counter-attacking half-century in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024-25 match between India C and India D.
Patel’s knock brought some respectability to the total of India D, which was reeling after being put into bat by India C skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad at the Rural Development Trust Stadium, Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh.
India C bowlers wreaked havoc with the brand new red cherry, as Anshul Kamboj began the proceeding with the wicket of Atharva Taide back in the opening over.
India D as skipper Shreyas Iyer was the next batter to be dismissed in the sixth over by Vijaykumar Vyshak. The RCB pacer snared the prized scalp of Devdutt Padikkal in the same over.
Yash Dubey, the opening batter, followed Padikkal to the pavillion in the next over while Ricky Bhui and Srikar Bharat fell cheaply as India D lost their six wickets for 48 runs in 20.2 overs.
That’s when Axar took the responsibility, taking matters into his own hands and building a partnership with Saransh Jain (13). But India D slipped to 76/8 after two quick wickets and that’s when the Indian all-rounder cut loose. He smashed 86 runs from 118 balls including 6 fours and 6 sixes to take his team to 164 in the first innings.
Axar reached his fifty in style smashing Manav Suthar for 14 runs in three deliveries.
