New Delhi: It was a case of so close yet so far for South Africa, who choked yet again in a World Cup knockout game. The Proteas failed to fulfil their long-standing dream of winning the world title on their first appearance in a World Cup final. Aiden Markram’s men came agonisingly close to beating India in a topsy-turvy summit clash in Barbados but Rohit Sharma’s men had the last laugh with a seven-run win that ended their 13-year-long World Cup jinx.
The historic result drew plenty of reactions on social media. While some fans were sympathetic towards South Africa, who were superb throughout the campaign, some trolled the Proteas brutally after their only loss of the tournament, which proved to be heartbreaking.
Fans were quick to point out an Indian connection in the South African jersey. As soon as social media users spotted the name of Amul, India’s largest dairy brand, on South Africa’s jersey, they showed no mercy by trolling the African nation after their loss in the final of the showpiece event.
“SA had Amul on their Tshirt. They just got a…..“Taste of India”, one fan wrote on social media.

Bumrah, Pandya lead India’s comeback
Having lost all hope after Heinrich Klassen smashed Axar Patel for 24 runs in the 15th over, India were lifted by some superb bowling by Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya. Both pacers showed immense maturity in pressure situations to revive the fortunes of the Men in Blue. Led by the resurgent pace battery, which also included Arshdeep Singh, India conceded only 25 runs in the last five overs and picked up three wickets to halt the South African charge.
Virat Kohli weaves his magic in final T20I game
When the in-form batters (Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav) failed to fire, it was Kohli who took the matter into his hands to play a superb knock. Under pressure to deliver after a string of low scores, Kohli shouldered the responsibility of taking India to the highest total (177/6) in a T2o World Cup final. Kohli’s patient 59-ball 76 proved to be the difference as he signed off from T20Is with a title-winning knock.
