The southwest monsoon departed from Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday with 18 percent less rainfall than normal. This year, the state received 600.9 mm rainfall in the monsoon season in the last 124 years, which is the 97th highest rainfall.
However, the highest rainfall (1314.6 mm) for the period from 1901 to 2024 was recorded in the year 1922. The monsoon entered the state on June 27.
From June 27 to October 2, 600 mm of clouds rained in the state. The normal date of withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from the state is September 25. Last year, the monsoon departed on October 6.
During the monsoon, the state recorded 54 percent less rain than normal in June, 29 percent less in July and 5 percent less in August. The state received 4 percent more rain during September.
During this period 734 mm of rain is considered normal. During 27 to 30 June, the state received 46 mm of rain. During this period 101 mm is considered normal. During June the state recorded 54 percent less rain than normal. During this period less rain was recorded in all the districts.
The state received 180 mm rain in July. During this period 255 mm of rain is considered normal. Thus, there was 29 percent less rainfall in July.
There was 243 mm rainfall in August, during this period 256 mm rainfall is considered normal. Five per cent less rainfall than normal was recorded in August.
125 mm rainfall was recorded in Himachal Pradesh during September, during this period 120 mm rainfall is considered normal.
Four per cent more rainfall than normal was recorded in September. Heavy rain occurred in Dharamsala and Palampur on July 6, Palampur on August 1 and Dhaula Kuan on September 26.
On the other hand, heavy rain occurred once in June, six times in July, seven times in August and thrice in September.
