New Delhi: The Sports Ministry has green lighted tennis star Rohan Bopanna’s request to fund his partcipation in men’s doubles competition of two ATP tour events with his partner Sriram Balaji
Bopanna and Balaji will compete in Hamburg and Umaag as part of their preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics. They will travel with their coach and physiotherapist before moving to Paris.
The ministry also approved funding for shooters Rhythm Sangwan, Sarabjot Singh, Vijayveer and Anish Bhanwala to travel with their personal coaches or trainers during training for Olympics in Volmerange and Paris Games at Chateauroux.
Through the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), the ministry will take care cost of their flight, board and lodging, visa and local transport.
The requests of skeet shooters Maheshwari Chauhan and Anantjeet Singh Naruka’s for assistance to have their personal coaches Riccardo Fillipelli in Arrezo, Italy, and Ennio Falco at the Tiro A Volo Falco range in Capua, Italy.
It was also decided that the ministry will assist steeplechasers Avinash Sable and Parul Chaudhary for their coach Scott Simmons to train in St. Moritz, Switzerland, for 24 days before the Olympics.
The women’s relay 4x400m team’s request for equipment and table tennis player Harmeet Desai’s request for funding to train in Biberach, Germany. The cost to purchase various consumables as well fee for support staff will also be borne by the ministry.
Sprinter Kiran Pahal, high jumper Sarvesh Anil Kushare and shot putter Abha Khatua were drafted in the TOPS core group for the Paris Olympics cycle.
