Significance of Sri Muppathamman Temple Chennai
A few thousand years ago, when this area became an agricultural land, Muppatamma appeared as a tree between people and neem tree. This is what they worshiped in the beginning. Later, Muppogam and Vilai found the idol of Amman from the ground. They placed this idol near the fire and started worshiping it. If prosperity and success come from the earth, they say Mupadhamman.
‘Muppogathu Amman’ (the deity who oversees and ensures fulfilling harvest across seasons) or ‘Moopattra Amman’ (she who never ages/the virgin goddess who never ages), Muppathamman is the Ishta Devata of thousands of people living in and around Chennai and hailed to be the bestower of boons.
In the sanctum sanctorum, grace and mercy abound, Muppatman is seen in the sitting posture. It is believed that if people with naga dosha come here and worship and pray to Mupadhamman, the dosha will be removed.
