New Delhi: Star India opener Ruturaj Gaikwad had to head back to the pavillion due to an ankle injury that forced him to retire hurt after facing two balls on Day 1 of the India B vs India C Duleep Trophy match at the Rural Development Trust Stadium B, Anantapur.
Ruturaj, the skipper of the India C team walked off in the morning session of the Round 2 match against India B due after twisting his ankle. Ruturaj came in to open the batting along with Sai Sudharshan after the India B captain, Abhimanyu Easwaran opted to bowl after winning the toss.
According to a report in Sportstar, Ruturaj twisted his ankle while taking a single on the second delivery after he opened his account with a boundary.

Injury scare for India C skipper
As there is no live telecast the nature and extent of the injury are unknown. But reports suggested that he will be fit to bat in the second innings.
If the injury is serious, Ruturaj’s loss would be a massive blow for India C. He came into the match in good touch scoring a 48-ball 46 against India B in the second innings in the previous game against India D.
Ruturaj has been a mainstay for the Chennai Super Kings top order in the Indian Premier League. He was entrusted with a leadership role by legendary cricketer MS Dhonim who relinquished captaincy duties after IPL 2023.
The ace batter has played in 6 ODIs and 23 T20Is for India. In the shortest format, Ruturaj has scored four half-centuries and one century and bats at an average of 39.56 with a strike rate of 143.54.
His ton came against Australia in November 2023 when he scored an unbeaten 123 against Australia in Guwahati, Assam
India C included Ishan Kishan, Mayank Markande and Sandeep Warrier in their playing XI in place of Aryan Juyal, Hrithik Shokeen and Himanshu Chauhan respectively.
