New Delhi: Delhiites, mark your calendars! The celebrated solo musical play My Name Is Jaan is coming to the Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts on 18th January 2025. This incredible production tells the story of Gauhar Jaan, India’s first gramophone recording artist, and her extraordinary journey in music.

Starring the talented actress Arpita Chatterjee, the play takes you back in time to explore Gauhar’s rise to fame, her struggles, and her triumphs. Known as the “Gramophone Girl of India,” Gauhar recorded her first song in 1902 and became a pioneer of Indian classical music. Arpita brings her story to life through powerful acting and live singing of 11 iconic songs in Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, and English.

Anupam Kher’s High Praise

Bollywood legend Anupam Kher, who watched the play in Mumbai, was full of praise for Arpita’s performance. “You were remarkable, Arpita. What grace, what a voice, what emotions! I’ve learned so much from watching you,” he said. Kher called the play one of the finest theatrical performances he has seen in recent years.

The Mumbai premiere was also attended by celebrities like Rituparna Sengupta and Juhi Babbar, who were deeply impressed by Arpita’s portrayal of Gauhar Jaan.
