Steve Bucknor say fans after Sachin Tendulakar’s ‘which umpire’ post goes viral

New Delhi: Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s latest post on Twitter triggered a dramatic meltdown among the fans on Saturday, November 16 as former umpire Steve Bucknor started trending. Tendulkar appeared to have taken an indirect dig at Buckner, who gave several controversial calls against the India legend during his umpiring career.

Former West Indies umpire Bucknor infamously made two huge blunders against Tendulkar as an umpire. He gave the Master Blaster out wrongly during the Gabba Test against Australia in 2003, sparking a huge debate before coming up with another umpiring howler against Sachin in a Test match between India and Pakistan at the Eden Gardens in 2005.

Bucknor is known for his controversial decisions against Tendulkar and the fans couldn’t help but mention the former West Indies umpire after the Master Blaster’s latest post. Tendulkar took to Twitter to post a picture of himself posing in front of three trees which appear like wickets. The former India batter asked, “Can you guess which umpire made the stumps feel this big?”

The tweet went viral instantly as several fans responded with Bucknor’s name while replying to the Master Blaster’s tweet, reminiscing about the former umpire’s controversial decisions.

During the Gabba Test between India and Australia in 2003, Bucknor wrongly gave Tendulkar out lbw against Jason Gillespie. The replays later showed the ball was clearly going over the stumps and had DRS been available to the batters at the time, Tendulkar would have survived.

In the Kolkata Test between India and Pakistan in 2005, Tendulkar was given out caught behind the wickets by Bucknor despite not having made any contact with a shortish delivery outside off from Razzaq. Once again Tendulkar had to pay the price as there was no DRS available at the time.

Steve Bucknor’s umpiring career

Bucknor made his debut as an international umpire in an ODI between India and West Indies in March, 1989. He stood in his first Test as an umpire in the Kingston Test between India and West Indies in April 1989. Bucknor officiated in a total of 128 Tests and 181 ODIs from 1989 to 2009. He stood in as many as five consecutive ODI World Cup finals from 1992 to 2007.
